Most of the other's got it. But I'd add that, once you decide on your limitations it wouldn't hurt to make a sticky limitations/permissions post so that it's easy for others to see what those are - and to maybe take a look to see if other people have one when you start rping with them. If they don't, probably not a bad idea to shoot a pm saying "Yo, was thinking of doing..." before doing anything that has a good sized chanced of triggering someone*.

Also, and this is more warning from my own experience, a lot DW and LJ rps tend to very fast**. So, unless you're planning on being around for a while it's probably not a good idea to start a thread or post. Note - I'm not saying that's bad or good, just a thing a lot of people don't expect going in.

*And speaking as someone whose had people do "SURPRISE RAPE!" while rping with me...it's very, very strongly recommended unless they've stated that they're okay with that somewhere.

**I've had IM rps that moved slower than several LJ/DW ones I've been in.

The second point really depends on the game in question. Some of them move quickly, and some of them are pretty sedate. You can usually tell what the general pace is by looking around the communities for the game you're in, though.

In general, if the game's heavy on prose RP, it'll be slower. If it's mostly quick dialog RP, it can speed by.

AYRT

That's why I said "a lot" not all. And, at least from what I've seen of that scene rp-wise...well. Let's just say I've seen more people prefer not to prose rp. [And an odd amount make huge fuss about not wanting to read when asked why - which is just weird to me, but each to their own.]
