to simulate depression

Why would they DO THIS?? Why would they even TRY this? How could they even "simulate" depression in the first place? Doesn't everyone experience depression differently? Those "unexplainable body aches can be one sign of depression" commercials just made me laugh like a loon. If the pain had been physical, I would have been able to handle it. For me, the pain was literally existential/non-physical, and that was the part that freaked me out the most.

TL;DR: How is a game like this in any way a good idea?

I'm not sure that this game'd actually be helpful for this. However, why not. Personally, I liked how 'Hyperbole and a Half' showed depression.
