It also doesn't help that the AOS cast has like 1% of the charisma of the TOS crew.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-04 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)He's a brat and a bully in the first movie and he didn't actually earn his position. TOS!Kirk on the other hand worked his way up. While he cheated on 'the test', we know he earned his position through hard work.
Nu!Kirk just got the position because he needed to have it at the end.
After being on academic suspension, stowing away on the flagship, mutiny and completely disrespecting and pushing Captain Spock (more mutiny), he's captain? Why isn't Spock captain? Didn't he do more towards that final victory than Kirk? Couldn't Kirk have acted as XO and advised Spock?
It was poorly done, and it makes the character, and the universe they live in, kind of ridiculous.
