I simply must ask (stereotypes, hooray!): Have you ever eaten Haggis (and are they actually commonly served in Scotland or is it more of "that thing all those tourists want to eat but Scottish people don't really eat it a lot"?)

I have had haggis, and it's actually quite easy to get! Not quite everywhere, but it's not difficult to find. Usually it's in supermarkets or tourist shops.

I actually prefer black pudding though. Haggis can be quite... stodgy.

Thanks for the reply!

Personally, I wouldn't be able to eat them, I have a real problem with eating anything related to offal, but I've still always been wondering what they would taste like X'D

Haggis is kinda peppery, meaty and stodgy. Most of the texture comes from the oats I think. It has a tendency to stick. It tastes better if it's actually boiled in a sheep's stomach, though that may be because if it's in a stomach rather than a plastic bag the ingredients are higher quality.

Black pudding is a lot lighter (since it's based on blood), often salty, and when it's not it tastes meaty, but subtly different.

Haha, so they actually sound like something I could like (or at least not dislike) if I ever got over my aversion to offal XD

I actually tried black pudding once, I think - it was fried so it was very crispy - quite different from the blood sausage version in my country (that one's much more.. dense?).

If you do, I hope you enjoy it!
(some tourist shops offer vegetarian haggis, not sure how that works).

Crispy on the outside, somewhat moist in the middle is best for black pudding. I am totally not a vampire. And I might have to try other blood puddings too! (My attitude is basicly I should try everything once unless I suspect it will make me ill.)
