I agree, although I do think they tried to keep fans interested with things only fans would notice.

It is the most successful Trek ever for a reason. It was appealing to more than just the niche fans. I think this was a smart move on their part and to be honest, I've been a fan of Trek for over thirty years, ahem, and it is my favorite Trek movie.

I was disappointed in ST:ID. It was really unnecessary to reboot one of the more successful TOS Trek movies. Orci didn't want to do it, and he was right, they shouldn't have.
