Deathfic!lovers fistbump! I always feel so alone in my passionate love of character death fics. But they are SO FASCINATING. I mean, unless they're about a canonical death, they're all just what-ifs, right? And there's something so satisfying about a character's death done in a satisfying and worthy way.

Also oh god that pic. :( I think I've seen it somewhere before...on fanlore, maybe?

Not the OP, but I'm almost 100% sure it is. Some old zines did illustrations so very well.

Yup, it is. An old zine called "Oneshot" but I don't own it. However, I was lucky enough to find this image from it on fanlore.org ^_^

Zine illustrations, when the artist was actually good and the illustration was related to the text, could be so great, IA.

There's something infinitely satisfying in reading or writing a good character death fic. I know that the vast majority of readers / writers abhor them, but I consider them a very healthy antidote to many overly saccharine happy-endings fanfic throws at me.

That art is fantastic annnnnnnnd I would never, ever want to read this, I think.

Not that I don't love a good death (there are few things I enjoy more, tbh), but there are certain characters I can't take the thought of dying. Especially when that character has an extremely close romantic relationship or friendship (or sibling relationship, etc) that would destroy the other person. And sometimes I love to see that in canon, and sometimes I don't. I'm weird.

But since all deathfic that isn't related to an actual canon death is completely non-canon, and some of them can be canon-incompatible (if it's an AU of a canon event or set during a period prior to the ending of the series or prior to the character's canon death) why would it matter so much if a deathfic gets Jossed?

It's about having the last word on a character, and that works better with a closed canon.
