I'm no Tyrion stan, and I think the wording of Tywin raping Tyrion by proxy is... weird to say the least.

BUT.

I think it's important that when Tywin made Tyrion have sex with Tysha, it was against Tyrion's will and uh yeah. That's all kinds of fucked up and is some kind of abuse.

It's fairly accurate phrasing. Unconsented to sex is rape by definition, Tywin wasn't a direct perpetrator, so it's essentially rape by proxy of both Tyrion and Tysha.

Ya know, it's not rape but it's pretty damn disgusting anyway. But the problem with defending pretty much anyone in GoT is that the lot of them are awful people.

Well, clearly what happened to Tysha was far worse, but Tyrion was still abused. He was, what, 13? And forced to watch as his wife got passed around like a piece of property and then made to rape her, too. By his dad. So, yeah, that's pretty fucked up.

I think it's safe that say that what Tywin did to Tyrion and Tysha was abusive and disgusting. However, that doesn't make Tyrion lily white. He's done awful things, too.

Tywin forced Tyrion to rape Tysha. Tyrion would not have done so to Tysha if Tywin wasn't forcing his hand, so I would consider it rape. (In modern times, I'd equate it to someone with a gun forcing two people to have sex when they both don't want to--I would say they're both being raped.)

And, yeah, perhaps Tyrion's a shitty person, but he was still raped in this situation and it doesn't matter what else he did or would later do. (That reads to me like telling a modern rape victim that because they did or would later do illegal things the fact that they were raped is immaterial, that they're still a horrible person.

I actually do like Tyrion, but I completely agree with you on both counts: Tyrion does some very shitty things in canon which his stans ignore, but he's a victim in this case, not a perpetrator.

Okay, so I don't like Tyrion and I think his fans tend to excuse his actions even if they're terrible.

But how is a 13-year-old boy being forced to have sex when he doesn't want to have sex NOT rape? That's pretty much the definition of rape and child abuse. I find the phrase "raped by proxy" a bit odd, but it's still a fact that Tyrion was sexually abused in this situation.

Normally when this argument happens it's because the participants are using two different definitions of rape. The more traditional one refers only to the physical violation itself. The broader term includes coercion and lack of consent. OP seems to be working off definition #1.
