I've watched the anime but aren't in fandom. Is he hated because he gets in the way of people's OTP or because of other reasons (voice, nagging, etc)?

I think it isn't so much the latter LOL, though some voices can be incredibly grating. It's one of the biggest reasons I can't stand Batman's Harley Quinn. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. But I tend to dislike silly high-pitched voices in general (this is particularly annoying in hentai anime OMG).

I'm not in the fandom either, but I've seen plenty of Nitori hate around. I think it's mostly just because he fawns over Rin? I dunno, but I've always thought he's adorable.

He's loathed because he has an annoying grating voice, doesn't know when to QUIT annoying his sempai, and is just the kind of person you want to kick across the room.
