And I don't think there are any (or perhaps very few) truly bad people. Do we cancel each other out?

I don't think there are any truly bad people either. I think we all are who and what we are. So what if we try to be good? Why do we want that? Maybe I want to be a good person because I want to help people, and I want to help people because I don't like seeing them suffer, and I don't like seeing them suffer because...why? In the end, it always goes back to arbitrary whims we can't control, things we're programmed with. The same goes for bad people. Many people do bad and really think it's right, whether due to upbringing, mental issues, or different priorities. Others have no choice, because with what they're given, simply by chance, there is no better option. And bad judgment, can we control that either? It seems we can't stop it from existing, and again, why would we? To be good? Why be good? Because society programs us to try? Then why are some people bad? Because other factors pull in the opposite direction. It's all arbitrary. Nobody can be good or bad because as much as they might think they can control who they are, they can't. They can control what they do, to some extent, but that's not the same, and only brings up more questions: why did they choose this pull over that one? How do they think? What's in their mind? The only question I feel can be answered is whether or not they can direct who and what they are, and the answer, from my point of view, is no.

Why do I think all this? Because I do. I just do. That's how I am, that's how it is. Every moment is a choice, but every choice is weighted beyond what we can hope to understand, let alone harness. And if we could, why would we be doing it?
