I laughed. Thanks, OP.

I get this. Sometimes it's nice when they don't go for the easy stereotypes.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess it depends on where you live, because where I live British tourists are pretty much viewed as the lowest of low (sorry lovely British people, but there are a lot of drunken fuckwits who are ruining it for you)

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I can apologise profusely anonfor the dickheads giving us Brits a bad name. :( :(

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah that's basically how they'ren seen in all of Europe. British tourists are not popular.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
I thought the lowest of low were Italian turists - Italian anon.

And Germans!

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, both British or German tourists abroad are known for excessive drinking and partying. Germans do it all over the beach as well, while I've seen the pale British chillin' in the shade instead LOL.

Americans, from what I've experienced on my travels abroad, are usually the loudest and quick to raise drama and draw attention to themselves when they don't like something about a situation/hotel/delay/trip/etc.

I don't like this and THAT'S AWFUL!

So, they're the sort that give Tumblr a bad name then?

I tried to watch this, because the subject matter appealed to my inner jackass, but I couldn't get past the first five minutes. Oops.

That said, you can find idiots everywhere! So I'm happy this show exists, if only to highlight that.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's a show that got a bit repetitive. He's not actually an idiot, just a Yorkshireman who tells it like he sees it. I know a few like him. It's funny for a bit, but it's the same joke.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
yorkshireman?

mate he's from manchester

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
From what I know of the series it's an in joke. The guy is a friend of those two actors from the Office. They've always despaired over his lack of interest and imagination, so they sent him out to all these amazing places.

Cultural stereotypes was never the aim here.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
British people being terrible tourists is a common stereotype in Europe, though?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's because overall the 'Americans being bad tourists' is just so overall popular that people, especially in the US come to expect that trope to be trotted out when any fictional show deals with tourists.

I'm going with troll. 1/10

Gotta say, when I first saw the title (before I actually read the rest of the secret), I assumed it was a foreign show about an American, and was surprised to find that it wasn't. So you're not the only one. XD

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Goes to show even non-americans can have the spirit of an American.
