The verb "to joss", more commonly seen as "to be jossed" sprang up in Buffy fandom to describe what happens to theories/stories which were compatible with canon at the time they were created when canon reveals information which disproves them. For example, fan-written conclusions to a cliffhanger episode would be jossed as soon as the actual conclusion airs; a character might have a common fanon middle name before it is jossed by the canon reveal of a middle name.

The opposite is "Kripked", where you have fan-written information that later turns out to be correct.
