Oh this so much. You just can't explain character based actions to some people, just because theoretically a character could do something does not mean it is in their nature to actually do it.

OMG this.

I once saw someone on Tumblr respond to another person making the same point as you that 'TV series have loads of writers and different directors so actually just about any characterisation is in character, because there is no set character anyway.'

Ugh. That is just...ugh. You can maybe get away with that for the first few episodes where the writers and characters are still being formed, but if a show has been running for more than half a season then there'll be a pretty fixed amount of character traits and while some writers or directors might have a looser grasp than others, it is still broadly consistent.
