For me it was confusing because I watched her last three episodes first (in S3 I mean), where she was less lost lover and more kickass rebel, so when I saw the first few episodes I was all "wait, what? Is this the same Martha?" I feel she did get shafted, ironically the show did the same thing Ten did (it just could not Get Over Rose), but I didn't hate her. I just had no idea where the Martha I'd seen went.
