That's exactly what I love and you're right, it's ridiculously hard to find. :(

Maybe one day something will happen on the show that encourages fandom to write more of that type of dynamic, but I know it probably isn't likely. I will continue to hope.

The part you quoted is why I don't fancy bottom Derek fic. It's... too easy. Most bottom Derek fics have him default to being a passive bottom who is happy to be a passive bottom and they don't force him to get over anything or accept wanting things for himself is okay. Giving up control by being a passive bottom isn't the same thing as trusting yourself to top without breaking everything, and all of that gets left behind and never touched on.

I don't think canon Derek would have an issue with bottoming. I do think he would have a way bigger issue with topping, which makes top Derek more interesting to me.

I agree. I think it would be incredibly easy for him to just go along with whatever his partner wanted; easier than him to ask or suggest something himself. Don't think it would be unusual for him to not feel comfortable saying, "Hey, I want this" because he's insecure and scared of losing control and hurting someone.

(Now I see nothing wrong with bottom!Derek either, it just isn't my personal preference.)

Damn it now I'm imagining Derek going to have sex with someone then stopping abruptly after the clothes come off and asking what they want to do then waiting there awkwardly and ruining the entire mood while the other person is like, "uhh, what? Intense looking dude in the leather, they assumed you were a dominant/top?"

Well he is, and he isn't, and it's complicated, okay? BRB angsting in angry frustration about his issues and jumping out the window. Derek's life is hard.

Now I want crack fic, god dammit.

I can totally imagine it either way, cracky as hell or completely serious. I don't even think it would be a stretch for him to just ask, "What do you want?" between all the necking because he isn't sure. Mmm, Derek Hale and necking...

You could make a crackfic out of this where he and his partner spend 20 minutes dancing around the topic of sex and what they explicitly want. "What do you want?" "I want what you want." "But I want what you want, what are we supposed to do now?"

Derek's life is hard is also the most appropriate and accurate statement I've ever read concerning Derek Hale.

I could see it as both types of fic at once, god.

It's not crack to Derek, it's serious fucking business and personal issues, okay. Meanwhile, the other person just saw him: stop in the middle of making out, have a twenty minute conversation about "what do you want to do?" "no, what do you want to do?," freak out about sex positions, mutter something not being able to do this, and flee into the night. What the fuck?

It could start crack then descend quickly into where the hell did all this introspection come from, likely to be dragged back into crack by the end when the top-from-the-bottom partner character decides they've had enough of this circling around and Derek not thinking it's okay to want things and decides to do something about it.

To be fair Derek does come and go as he pleases. Maybe that's why he never contacts anyone the normal way (texting, calling), he just shows up at their house and waits because he wants to be able to leave immediately after so the awkwardness is limited. So why NOT leave when he gets confused about sex/isn't turned on anymore? Makes sense to me.

Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. Treat Derek like he deserves to be treated. Yes, the TW fandom needs this.

You should really just go ahead and write it because I can gurantee you there would be an audience for it! (Even if that audience is only me.)

....... I tried to write some but it turned into AU sterek crack at 2 AM. I would post what I have here but tbh I'm terrified, I've never written TW fic before. I could PM some to you if you wanted but I can't promise non-OOC. What am I doing @_@
