how? aside from being headstrong (like a lot of the women in the Harry Potter universe are) and having red hair (though different shades), they don't seem to have a lot in common

Yeah, I don't get it either. I'm not a fan of Ginny or the way Ginny/Harry was done but if I was going to compare Ginny to one of Harry's parents it would be James, not Lily. (Fell in love and stayed in love from young age, loves Quidditch, somewhat vicious sense of justice, etc.)

I always wonder if the people so convinced that Ginny = Lily don't know anybody with red hair. Bright red hair with brown eyes and freckles does not remotely make me think TWIN to someone described as having dark red hair and green eyes.
