Also, you don't love a person for what they do, you love them for who they are. That's why people can forgive and stand by SOs who do bad things, especially when the bad thing is an aberration.

Also also, people don't have switches they can use to turn off feelings, so if they fall in love with someone who doesn't reciprocate, staying in love with them isn't OMG skeevy, it's how feelings work. (Stalking is, of course, a different matter).

Also also also, it's not the job of stories to turn every single character into a bland, boring, redeemed automaton. Different characters fulfil different functions in a story and it's ok for a story to have villains. The story's meaning is in the sum of its parts.
