AYRT

That is so many hours of television. If I could've watched them as they aired...but that didn't happen.

Yeah. I watched a lot of TNG and VOY as they aired (I don't know why not DS9, I don't think our station ran it), if often out of order and with a lot of context missing, depending on when I managed to catch it in between school and other things. TOS and DS9 are the two I actually bought DVD boxsets for (DS9 first, because I was coming off Babylon 5 and wanted something similar) and then TOS when I managed to buy at less than astronomical prices. ENT I mostly watched online. So, of all of them, TOS and DS9 are the ones I got most consistent coverage of. Which, now that I look at it, may have contributed to my liking of them. Though you'd think TNG and VOY would get in on nostalgia value, but apparently not so much. Huh.

My favourites in ENT were Shran, Malcolm and T'Pol, though Phlox had some interesting stories as well. Trek often has interesting exploration of medical ethics, that's been true across almost all the series, so the various Doctors often have pretty good storylines.

Oh man, I enjoy TOS so much partially because it IS cheesy and cracktastic. It's fun, but does sometimes get serious and does a surprisingly good job of being insightful.

It so, sooo is. I adore TOS. They tried, honestly and earnestly, to promote and impart ideas of social change, and I think most of their looking-forward was sociological instead of technological in nature, and they get points for that. But they also had so much cheese. So much. Everybody hams it up, Sulu gets shirtless on alien drugs, Kirk has slow-mo fights with rubber aliens, there are times when Scotty looks like he doesn't believe what's coming out of his own mouth, and DeForest Kelly occasionally looks like McCoy's grumpy face isn't all pointed in-universe. Sometimes it's painful (Spock's Brain and Turnabout Intruder are BAD), but sometimes it's just adorable and fun.

And DS9 is awesome, but I recommend actual binge-watching or at least ordered watching, because they stick strongly to story arcs and I don't think it'd do so well for casual viewing. I madly adore the DS9 crew, however, and would fight anyone who dissed them ;)

Yay for Shran and DS9!

Oh yes, Shran was awesome.

And I like the DS9 crew too. OK, I got sick of most of them at one point or another. But what a cast that was.
