I agree with the secret in principle, but you ruined it with the implication that everything today sucks and older stuff is inherently better. Sorry cupcake it don't work that way. A lot of shit got made then, a lot of gold gets made now. Bored of this whole sentiment. It's just as obnoxious as people who won't watch anything that isn't under ten years old.

(for what it's worth my favourite era of film is the late 70s to the mid-80s)

I'm sorry, OP, because that sucks, but...if the only thing you had in common was a love of fantasy, then yeah, they're gonna leave. You can't force them to want to talk about any of those other things anymore than they can force you to talk about fantasy books.

It sounds like it's time to move on, as hard and sad as it may be.

Why? Schools like that would probably have taught them to be awful people, even if they aren't as ugly as the people who go to regular schools. So I guess you have to choose between an ugly person and a horrible person, unless you can find someone who was never ever sent to school. Like someone who was locked in a room for their entire life until adulthood.

Tell your therapist.

Don't be embarrassed; what you did was normal, and I'm sure they've heard a lot crazier stories, anyway. Tell them, so they can work with you to find alternative ways of dealing. We can give you all of the suggestions in the world, but we don't know as much about the specifics of your situation as your therapist does. They're in a much better position to find something that works for you.

Kirby was a bit of a grump (He also came off as the only real "adult" of the group and the babysitter of the other appliances, so that's very understandable.), but I wouldn't call him villainous.
