That's why I said Voldy should have just walked in and got the damn thing himself (since it's about him too). If the place was empty and he had no problem getting in then I don't see why not.

But I see it as speculation when people just make up that they'd have to make so many trips just for side-along apparition when nowhere is it stated there's a limit.

Voldemort was still trying to be incognito at the time, and his appearance at the ministry was a fuck-up; he meant to be hidden for a lot longer, it's just that his original plan went tits-up and he had to step in. As to why lure Harry to get the prophecy? Two birds, one stone. He gets the prophecy and a (frankly possibly higher in his priorities) clean shot at finally killing Harry where he's away from his customary protection.

It may not be stated that there's no limit for side-along apparition, but apparition is described as being dangerous and you see first hand that it can be even for someone who knows what they're doing (Ron at the MoM break-in? He came out seriously injured.) It takes a lot of concentration just to apparate yourself well (it's stated more than once that a lot of wizards don't even consider it worth learning), and I imagine the more physical mass that has to be moved, the more concentration necessary, and therefore a much larger risk of lethal error.

Also, I forgot to mention: the Death Eaters clearly rely on Harry's previous patterns of behavior, as we see when he uses the disarming charm and outs himself at the Real Potter. OotP is the book that explicitly has Harry going into the final battle surrounded by a support group (which was of course JKR making a contrast to his feeling isolated for so much of the group). Based on his previous actions and the simple/idiotic conclusions the Death Eaters seem to draw about Harry (remember they know about him facing Quirell and a basilisk alone and trying to kill Sirius single-handedly, and fighting Voldemort alone), he should have shown at the ministry alone, meaning he would have been toast. The only reason he survived that encounter was because he had a whole group with him.

There's a point that comes where it's all speculation and therefore not really a plot hole so much as something people can't agree on. To me anyway.

IT DOESN'T HAVE HIS NAME ON IT. Jesus. The only people who could touch the prophecy were Harry and Neville. I thought you'd read the books.

It said "Dark Lord" on it. Don't be so fucking rude.

It was either "Dark Lord" or "Tom Marvolo Riddle".

Which, you know, Voldemort.

We know Apparation carries the danger of being "Splinched" even with single wizards who just aren't paying careful enough attention. It makes sense that this danger would go up with the more people you bring along. With Portkeys, everyone just has to grab on and go, no danger of missing body parts. It's clear which seems to be the safer route of travel when there's a bunch of underage kids tagging along.

After all, in DH it was just the Trio Side-Along-ing, and Ron still got splinched.
