I've watched some of all of them, and most of TOS, TNG and DS9, but honestly I do think you can just pick'n'mix what appeals to you. How many episodes are there in five shows? Plus movies? It really isn't necessary to plough through all of them, I think.

And I kind of like ENT as well. Well. Mostly I love Shran, and went looking for every episode he appeared in, and every episode I might need for context for those episodes. Heh.

Oddly, I think my favourites of all the shows ended up being TOS and DS9, which probably ought to be a contradiction given that TOS was an earnest (if cheesy and cracktastic) utopian vision, and DS9 was an earnest deconstruction of said utopian vision that somehow managed to remain hopeful. Nonetheless, those are the two I fell hardest for.

This is my issue with it. If I had all the time in the world and a convenient way to watch them then I would go for it, but right now sometimes it's a struggle for me to keep up with shows I'm currently watching. That is so many hours of television. If I could've watched them as they aired...but that didn't happen.

I think it's awesome when people have seen everything Trek; that takes dedication! But...yea, not all people can or will manage it.

Phlox was one of my favorite parts of Enterprise, but I actually didn't mind Archer himself either. Or Hoshi, etc.

Oh man, I enjoy TOS so much partially because it IS cheesy and cracktastic. It's fun, but does sometimes get serious and does a surprisingly good job of being insightful.

I haven't seen DS9. :(

Yeah. I watched a lot of TNG and VOY as they aired (I don't know why not DS9, I don't think our station ran it), if often out of order and with a lot of context missing, depending on when I managed to catch it in between school and other things. TOS and DS9 are the two I actually bought DVD boxsets for (DS9 first, because I was coming off Babylon 5 and wanted something similar) and then TOS when I managed to buy at less than astronomical prices. ENT I mostly watched online. So, of all of them, TOS and DS9 are the ones I got most consistent coverage of. Which, now that I look at it, may have contributed to my liking of them. Though you'd think TNG and VOY would get in on nostalgia value, but apparently not so much. Huh.

My favourites in ENT were Shran, Malcolm and T'Pol, though Phlox had some interesting stories as well. Trek often has interesting exploration of medical ethics, that's been true across almost all the series, so the various Doctors often have pretty good storylines.

It so, sooo is. I adore TOS. They tried, honestly and earnestly, to promote and impart ideas of social change, and I think most of their looking-forward was sociological instead of technological in nature, and they get points for that. But they also had so much cheese. So much. Everybody hams it up, Sulu gets shirtless on alien drugs, Kirk has slow-mo fights with rubber aliens, there are times when Scotty looks like he doesn't believe what's coming out of his own mouth, and DeForest Kelly occasionally looks like McCoy's grumpy face isn't all pointed in-universe. Sometimes it's painful (Spock's Brain and Turnabout Intruder are BAD), but sometimes it's just adorable and fun.

And DS9 is awesome, but I recommend actual binge-watching or at least ordered watching, because they stick strongly to story arcs and I don't think it'd do so well for casual viewing. I madly adore the DS9 crew, however, and would fight anyone who dissed them ;)

Yay for Shran and DS9!

Oh yes, Shran was awesome.

And I like the DS9 crew too. OK, I got sick of most of them at one point or another. But what a cast that was.

Shran's awesome. I also like Archer)

Of the humans, I think Malcolm and Hoshi are my favourites. Malcolm and T'Pol are my favourite crew members overall, but I tend to empathise with Vulcans pretty strongly across most of Trek. Soval's interactions with Shran and the crew are some of my favourite parts of ENT.

I've read your response above too.)
I was on a Malcolm centric fic binge for some time after those eps, one with the mine, and another, eh, I don't remember.
I loved Soval, Shran and Archer interactions. =D And T'Pol had some funny lines. There is not enough love for Enterprise.

btw, I know I'm lucky to like the main character, so I enjoyed the whole series.

I think I probably would enjoy most of the series if I watched it properly (there's always the odd clanger episodes), it's just that for reasons of time constraints I mostly stuck with proven favourite characters when cherry-picking episodes for viewing. I've done that with a few shows, ENT and TNG just got the brunt of it among my Treks (I gravitate towards Q and Data/Geordie episodes in TNG, also Tasha and Worf). Someday when I've time to sit down and watch them through like I did for TOS and DS9, we might see if anything changes ;)
