Having gone to one of these schools, I don't understand this at all.

It's a harmless kink to have, OP. I feel I should warn you, however, that the poshest of public schools (Eton, Winchester, Marlborough, etc, etc) are often full of drug-addled, entitled, self-important rich assholes.

Of course there are exceptions, but it's depressing once you realise that those exceptions are very much the minority.

...Uh, having been to 'one of those schools'. They're pretty insular, so friends of friends tend to be from other, similar schools.
