Why? Schools like that would probably have taught them to be awful people, even if they aren't as ugly as the people who go to regular schools. So I guess you have to choose between an ugly person and a horrible person, unless you can find someone who was never ever sent to school. Like someone who was locked in a room for their entire life until adulthood.

I went to a private school and "even if they aren't as ugly as the people who go to regular schools"?? What?? I don't think looks factor into their admissions process, except maybe subconsciously. They're not all attractive. Rich, probably.

Not all public schools are awful. Some of the cheaper ones are full of kids of aspirational upper middle class people.

In my experience, all of the kids were super-embarrassed by their parents' pretentiousness and just wanted to work hard and get on in the world.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
What? Complete rubbish. Pretty much all the ex-public schoolboys I have know were perfectly decent people, and I'm married to one. He's not even remotely "horrible", he's a gentleman with very strong morals.

Your comment reeks of sour grapes.

You read too many High School AUs.

Ugly Anon, you are taking a very odd turn in your commenting.

Fetishizing something doesn't mean you think there just happens to be a high correlation between people who are attractive and people with the quality you fetishize; it means the quality itself is what you find attractive.

I never went to an English public school, OP, but I went to an all-uniform posh sort of school that had mostly kids of doctors, lawyers and the like and I can tell you, while there's nothing wrong with your fetish and it's benign as far as kinks go, you're probably seeing the whole thing through rose-coloured glasses.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to presume you're not British.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Having gone to one of these schools, I don't understand this at all.

It's a harmless kink to have, OP. I feel I should warn you, however, that the poshest of public schools (Eton, Winchester, Marlborough, etc, etc) are often full of drug-addled, entitled, self-important rich assholes.

Of course there are exceptions, but it's depressing once you realise that those exceptions are very much the minority.

I recommend attending a university with a lot of public school boys who failed to get into Oxbridge to break you of that habit. Hiddles is the exception.

LOL! Durham or St Andrews? ;)

Are you American? I think this is a common American fetish. The Eaton uniform is so hot.

*Eton.

I'm not American.

I can see where you're coming from. From an outsider's perspective they can seem glamorous + very British.

You're not alone, OP. I do it too, even though I know it's ridiculous. I even read books about them. Don't feel bad.

From the secret, it sounds to me like OP has read this:

http://www.theguardian.com/education/2014/jun/09/boarding-schools-bad-leaders-politicians-bullies-bumblers

Whether or not it's true (or looking for a straw man excuse for far right politicos that are in power in many countries today) IDK. I just thought it might be relevant.

Private schools across the pond tend to be only for the 1%.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-07 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I hadn't read that, actually, but I will now.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's that uncommon, OP. Plus, in a lot of Brit fandoms it's pretty much a given. Nothing like class angst, fagging and the old boy network to get the imagination going.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-07 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
It took me a minute to remember that British 'public' does not correspond to American 'public' but American 'private'.

Which makes no sense. How is it 'public'? Is it open to the general public? Can everyone go, regardless of financial means? Is it publicly funded?

Cause the word 'private' is the one that tends to bring to mind insular, fenced-in places that have high standards to get in...so I'm always confused by this.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-07 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
British people may make a fuss about American-English, but British english makes much less sense to me. Though I'm an ESL so that probably doesn't help
