I recommend attending a university with a lot of public school boys who failed to get into Oxbridge to break you of that habit. Hiddles is the exception.

I don't know if they still do this, but back when I was about to apply for Uni we had to sit through a mini-lecture on applying to Oxford and Cambridge. Back then, Oxford and Cambridge used to send out a joint letter advising students that if they 'didn't think they would meet the extremely high standards required' then they should, and I remember the phrasing to this day, "apply to another University such as Durham".

Ironically, it was that letter that convinced me to give Oxbridge a miss. They're so far up their own asses! Durham's a great Uni. :D I ended up at LSE in the end.

How did you find LSE? I confess I have a slanted impression of it from one book I read by a non-Brit who went there and was disappointed on some level, but that may have just been her.
