Never saw Little Mermaid II (or any of the II's), but Ariel was queen? Did her father die? That seems grim for Disney - except, oh wait, I just remembered The Lion King. Never mind.

She was married to Eric, and he was the King. Little Mermaid II was about their daughter, Princess Melody. So Ariel was a Queen in the kingdom she married into, but a Princess in the kingdom she was born in. She also was the youngest of seven sisters, I think, so she would almost never be queen of the sea, but Triton would be succeeded by a Queen of the Sea, not a King.

*probably over thinking this*

OMG, I should have thought of that. (Eric, I mean.) Guess she just made a lateral move, class-wise, when she married.

Actually, on top of Kida, Elinor, Elsa, and Ariel, then even going by just the movies alone, I think Snow White was also queen by the end of her movie (in that with her father and step-mother dead, she's now the Queen of her kingdom). Belle, from what I remember, is inconclusive, because Beast is Prince Adam, but I don't remember hearing anything about a King/Queen...? Then again, she may be in the same boat as Pocahontas and Mulan, in that they aren't actually/technically involved in royalty, anyway, but are just part of the Princess line-up because merchandising.

/needs to stop thinking about this
