I understand that it's frustrating when things aren't clearly labeled, and it can be annoying when you're looking for one thing and end up with something else.

BUT that doesn't mean that no sex (or making out, whatever) automatically equals platonic. You even said the characters consider it romantic, and if the people actually in the relationship define it as romantic, then it is.
