Excuse you. Sleepy Hollow has never had "an ordinary script." Ordinary scripts make some degree of sense, and do not require the viewer to throw up their hands and say "Sure, fine, let's go with that" at least once an episode. Sleepy Hollow's scripts are beautiful masterpieces of batcrazy WTF, and these people still make it work.

Okay, my mistake. The scripts are weird but those two actors make you buy every weird little thing. Crane's son is a Horseman from the Apocalypse? Sure. Abbie is a Witness for that oncoming Apocalypse? Fine.
