But Morgan Freeman isn't in the show! But he totally should be.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally! He could explain all sorts of things, that woul be nice.

Aren't they both the protagonists? That's the impression I got from watching it.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep.
forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2014-07-06 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. Dual protagonists.

They both are but Crane's story is more important since his life and everything that has happened was pretty much the catechist that started the Sleepy Hollow plotline. No Crane. No love triangle with his friend and his fiance. No love triangle, no plot to get revenge. No plot to get revenge, no Horseman of the Apocalypse. No Crane, no wife. No wife, no son. No son, no other Horseman of the Apocalypse.

You take him out and you just have the story of two sisters who saw a Demon in the woods for no real reason.

...it's Sleepy fucking Hollow and people think it shouldn't be about Ichabod? Are you kidding me?
elaminator: (Sleepy Hollow)

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-07-06 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
lmao, yea, this is confusing me too. If you don't like Ichabod then alright, but...it's to be expected that he would be included. Plus, Abbie is just as important, has just as much screen-time (I think she does, anyway) and is just as great a character, so it's not like he's the entire focus.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I've only watched half an episode, so maybe I'm missing something, but why does Ichabod have to be the protagonist? The reason the show is called Sleepy Hollow is because it revolves around a headless horseman; in almost every other respect, it bears no resemblance to the Washington Irving story. Changing the protagonist would've been small potatoes when compared to sweeping changes like setting the show in the present and making the headless horseman an actual supernatural entity rather than a mean prank.

I get where you're coming from, but you'd have a stronger argument if this show were about the actual Washington Irving story instead of being a show that has some elements and character names from the Washington Irving story, but is essentially a different story.

I'm thinking you don't watch the show because Morgan Freeman isn't in it.

But thanks for reminding me that I need to watch the season finally.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you seriously take that away from the OP? That he/she thought Morgan Freeman was in the show?

finale*

Oh my gosh. This is what I get for staying up until 2 in the morning and then waking up early. Oh well.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't watch Sleepy Hollow, but I've seen lots of gif sets, and the only ones that interest me are the collections of him trying to understand how the 21st century works.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
i doubt this sentiment is wide spread or common. i'm guessing this secret just another excuse to moan about those icky SJWs, F!S's favorite past time.

as much shit as that hellhole tumblr and ontd get, you people come off just as obsessed.

I've never heard this sentiment before (though to be fair, I don't hang out in the Sleepy Hollow fandom either, so I guess I wouldn't) so not sure how much it gets thrown around (probably not much at all). IMO the secret is worded harshly and they could've been cooler about it, but I agree that I don't see why Ichabod wouldn't be in the show. (However, yea, I'll never understand the levels of anger that some people feel about topics like this.)

Wait, people say that?

Like, Ichabod crossing time is like the entire premise of the show. The other characters are interesting as well, but without him there's literally no story.

Really? I've seen a lot of the Katrina hate which is sad but understandable, but people hating on Ichabod? You must be dealing with some really radical fringe parts of the fandom.
mekkio: (Default)

[personal profile] mekkio 2014-07-06 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Screw people like that. Because that would mean missing out on the amazing chemistry between Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie. When they are together, they can take an ordinary script so utterly compelling.

I love the show and I have no problem with Ichabod being in it. The whole cast is awesome, in different ways. Just wanted to put that out there.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-07 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Erm, I feel this is an exaggeration. Ichabod is popular. Most are excited by the fact that the show is committed to a diverse cast with a black female co-lead, and don't want anything to overshadow that - namely anyone else that could threaten the centrality of Ichabod/Abbie's friendship.

Which means that Katrina gets an unfortunate amount of OTT hate - BUT I've also seen people complaining that there are no cute guys to slash Ichabod with (there are three, but none of them are white, so...yeah). So if there's an emphasis on praising the black leads, it's probably only because fandom is going to shove them aside the moment a slashable white guy turns up.
