Erm, I feel this is an exaggeration. Ichabod is popular. Most are excited by the fact that the show is committed to a diverse cast with a black female co-lead, and don't want anything to overshadow that - namely anyone else that could threaten the centrality of Ichabod/Abbie's friendship.

Which means that Katrina gets an unfortunate amount of OTT hate - BUT I've also seen people complaining that there are no cute guys to slash Ichabod with (there are three, but none of them are white, so...yeah). So if there's an emphasis on praising the black leads, it's probably only because fandom is going to shove them aside the moment a slashable white guy turns up.
