I disagree with you that a lot of media today sucks or that it's less good than in the past (especially because there were a LOT of shitty movies back in the day just like there are shitty things airing today. We're just more likely to know about the better ones because...well, people probably ignored the shittier ones). I love a lot of the films/movies that have come out recently and I like that media is gradually becoming more and more diverse.

It is too bad that most older films don't have much of a fandom though, especially since a lot of old films are like super slashy (The Wild North with Stewart Granger and Wendell Corey comes to mind. One of the male leads even calls the other "bébé" throughout the film. And they spend a decent chunk of the movie chained together. I love it so much). At least Singin' in the Rain has a bit of a fandom, and multiple Cosmo/Don/Kathy fics which pleases me beyond words.
