And of course you are! Now, go and get the series and immediately start binge-watching it!
(There's no reason why I had to suffer through it and you don't.)

What?

But... that doesn't make any sense. Why Enterprise, specifically?

Eh, I haven't watched every Star Trek series either; I don't think it's a 'requirement' to be a Star Trek fan. (And if people give you shit about that then you should ignore them.)

That said, I seem to be one of the few people who actually likes Enterprise, so I feel like it's worth watching. If you have no interest in it though, you probably shouldn't bother; you aren't obligated.

Don't watch it and don't feel guilty about it.

It's frustrating because of its potential and aggravating because of its ret-conning.

While I've seen a lot of Star Trek, I'm not even sure I'd consider myself a "fan". I mean, I like it as a series, but I'm not that involved with fandom or intrigued by characters as with a lot of other things.

But, TOS >>>>>>> Enterprise

I actually really enjoyed Enterprise, but I realize I'm in the minority. I do have a couple of suggestions should you decide to watch it: fast-forward through the theme song (overly earnest country ballad with lyrics) and don't watch the third season (it was a loose collection of 2-3 episode arcs that were the result of the creators not knowing precisely when TPTB were going to pull the plug).

Not every series is going to appeal - that's why people have favourite series within the ST universe. I haven't seen all of Voyager's season 7, despite Voyager being my favourite. It doesn't make me a 'bad fan', it just means the direction that season took didn't appeal.

I wouldn't worry about it. If the series didn't seem to be your thing, why waste your time watching it?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
You haven't missed much. Don't feel bad about it.

Meh. I've watched about four episodes of Enterprise, and only about 10% of Voyager. I still call myself a Trekkie because I love the three other shows and admire Gene's vision. I just don't like those particular incarnations of it.

Everyone's different, what what appeals to other people might very well not appeal to you, doesn't make you a bad fan for not being interested. And I've yet to personally meet a Star Trek fan who likes every single Star Trek series/film anyway.

I got married on the Bridge of the Enterprise in Vegas. And I'm sad that I saw 5 episodes of this piece of crap. At least it had Scott Bakula.

Just want to say, I really like the coloring of this secret, OP.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Your priorities, OP; you need to reorder them.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Save yourself the brainspace. Enterprise sucked the first three and a half seasons and by time it got good, it got cancelled and the creater/exec producer crapped all over it with a shitty ending.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking as one of the small handful of Trekkies that actually LIKES this show...

If you want to at least give the show a fair shot, my suggestion is to watch the first four or so episodes (up through The Andorian Incident). Either that or find a list of the best Enterprise episodes and watch those. If you don't like it after that, then at least you can say you tried it.

If you like it enough to keep going, though, I agree with the commenter above that you should skip the opening credits (except for In a Mirror Darkly), and DEFINITELY skip the very last episode.

I'm confused.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-07 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Did you dream about it because you feel bad, do you feel bad because you dreamed about it, or am I missing something?
philippos42: "Dark Vengeance!" (flip)

Eh, I think lots of Trekkies never got into ENT

[personal profile] philippos42 2014-07-07 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I like Enterprise. And honestly, speaking as a sorta Trekkie, I'd just as soon a lot of the Trekkies had stayed away. I mean the ones who would complain about every little difference and inconsistency.

It was a re-imagining.

It had a bit in common with early TNG, honestly. But it didn't try to ape the art direction of other Trek series.

It tried to do more with the Andorians and the Vulcans. And there was a retcon in having a Vulcan on the Enterprise before Spock, which some people just could not let go. Such butthurt. And in the process, we got repeated reminders that the Vulcans weren't made of concentrated benevolent awesomeness, but were kind of, you know, flawed people. Which was totally consistent with how they'd been played all along, but apparently not with the headcanon of Female Romulan Captain and her ilk.

Still mad about the last season trying to "win back the Trekkies" instead of just saying, "Nope, we're our own thing! Yes, 'Faith of the Heart' is our theme song, yes, we've rewritten things, no, we don't give a fig what you think, go back and rewatch DS9 or something!"

(Anonymous) 2014-07-07 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
You're not missing much, anon. There were a few things that left me going, "Uh...this doesn't fit?"

(Anonymous) 2014-07-07 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, you're absolved. I call myself a real ST fan, but I've only watched most of the original series. I saw most of the first season of ST: TNG which frankly put me off every other Star Trek series forever, it was so bad! I did tried again and saw a few episodes of DS9 and a few more of the series with Captain Janeway (what was it called?), but each and every time the stupid got to me and I just couldn't go on.

So frankly I would never dream of watching Enterprise and I've given up on the Abrams movies too after the first half hour or so. I still proudly call myself a Star Trek fan, so I think you can too!

But I must admit I admire your tenacity in watching all the other ST series like TNG, DS9 etc. You're stronger than I am and you deserve not to force yourself to watch Enterprise if you don't feel like it: you only live once.

Don't waste hours of your life watching a show you do not feel like watching where are so many great shows and movies you could be watching instead!
