Re: OP here
(Anonymous) 2014-07-07 01:12 am (UTC)(link)-I'm pretty sure the entire point of the portkey at the World Cup was just to explain early on what would later be happening at the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Was it the easiest solution, perhaps not; but it was necessary to explain what would later happen without bogging down the climax of the book.
-I always got the feeling that the track on underage magic was sort of doggy. Like, of course kids practiced magic at home, the ministry couldn't possibly think to expel all of them. And, wasn't it implied that Hermione, after learning she was a witch (and, perhaps now under the restriction) was practicing some spells before entering Hogwarts.
-I really don't think a baby just a little over a year old has the mental facilities to truly understand what he saw. Even if there'd been a thestral in the room at the time, I doubt Harry would have been able to see it, because all he would have cared about is eating, sleeping, elieving himself, and being comforted during a time of obvious distress.
