Re: Things you plan on doing when/if you have kids
(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)Couple things. Your post was not clear to me, whether you were in the "I am religious and want to teach my kids what I believe" camp or the "God comes up so often in conversation I'm gonna get asked who it is and I need an answer" one.
Your response clarifies things. I appreciate that.
I was raised Christian, and in my personal experience, Christianity and church was more about hurting me (people telling me that people who said/thought/did things that I found myself saying and thinking and doing (quietly, alone, in secret) were bad people who would go to hell because it went against their religion) than the love that they professed to have for their fellow man. It was a very confusing and troubling time for me, and it's something I still struggle with as an adult.
If your plan is to teach your children the love and respect, and not bad parts, that's great. But there ARE people who promote the bad things under the umbrella of religion. So that's my concern.
Re: Things you plan on doing when/if you have kids
yeah
That's a good point. I know it doesn't mean much but I'm sorry you went through that. I hate hearing about people being abused in the guise of religion.
I'm sorry for seeming rude.
