Re: Things you plan on doing when/if you have kids

There are definitely ways of setting up "child" accounts. Growing up my siblings and I always had unsupervised access, but only for one hour a day. I think I'd do the same thing.

And if they claimed they needed more for homework or whatnot, I'd make a list of greenlisted sites like the local library's online catalog, several news sites, wikipedia, etc.

Well considering a major part of discovering my own sexual identity/kinks/likes came from being able to have unfettered access to the internet around age 14 or so I think I'd be willing to trust my child with the same provided I felt like I had done a good enough job of warning them about safe internet use and felt they were trustworthy.

Before that, I would want a degree of supervision.

I can understand that.

But at the same time, so much of the quality of my time on the internet was tied to the whole un-supervision. And it wasn't like I was doing anything naughty, but rather going on HP roleplaying sites and stuff. My three focuses were Harry Potter, Sailor Moon, and like Neopets. And I guess a part of me wants to trust that my kids will be responsible, like I was.

IDK, maybe I'd tell them up front that I may or may not check and every so often go through their internet history? That would require them not knowing what an internet history is though. And seems both less and more intrusive somehow than straight up watching over their shoulder.
