Re: Good writer or bad writer?
(Anonymous) 2014-07-07 03:22 am (UTC)(link)I see it a lot on forums like NaNoWriMo. For me... it sorta feels like a side-effect of writers wanting to be cool/mysterious and frame the writing process as this nebulous thing, rather than active choices that writers make. Like "Wow I talk out loud to my characters and everyone in school was looking at me they think I'm totally CRAY-ZEE! hahahaha"
NO.
I mean, I do understand that sometimes writing can /feel/ out of your control, especially when you get in the "zone" and get a good flow going, but you're still the writer. And you're still in charge. It's good if you can convince the reader that your characters are real people. But in the end, they're there for the sake of the story.
Re: Good writer or bad writer?
Again, though, I don't think this necessarily has anything to do with the quality of the actual end product (that special snowflake quirky high schooler might write the next great epic, who knows), or whether someone is a good or bad writer or not. Just a different mentality thing.
