This topic intrests me; could you elaborate? I only get to see a pool for a couple of months a year (and not this year since the local public pool is closed for renovations and of course it's the hottest summer in three years), so I don't know much other than "don't run" and "don't swim in the deep end unless you can handle it" and "don't drown other people".

Eh, we don't have other seasons besides summer where I live, so we're always in the water here. Probably the same for the poster. Pool/ocean safety is second nature to people like me who were swimming two minutes after we were born, but every single day there's a report on the news about some tourist or recent transplant who drowned in a pool or had to be rescued from the water in some way.

It bugs me more when I see ocean safety rules pissed on. Rip currents, high tides, jellies, sharks, stingrays...they are all things that are ingrained into our dna here, but people from other places don't really get. And our ocean life is super protected here. Even swimming too close to a few different animals can get you in some serious shit.

Oh god yes to the ocean safety thing. Where I'm at, the ocean life isn't a huge deal, but rip currents are.

The one that really annoys me is people ignoring the surfing/swimming divides on lifeguarded beaches. For those who've never heard of it, at popular beaches where I'm at, the lifeguards will put up checkered flags, and you're supposed to go to one side if you're just swimming, and the other if you're going surfing or bodyboarding. The reason for this is that a surfboard can cause fairly serious damage if it hits you. Other surfers tend to be aware of this, but I've more than once had to bail somewhat dangerously because some idiot was playing with their 5-year-old in the waves I was surfing.

People are stupid about water safety.

Even people that have had pools for years, maybe especially some people who have had pools for years - there's this weird assumption that if nothing bad has happened so far, it's unlikely to happen (this doesn't just go for pool safety, a lot of people don't really get probability).

I like hearing about all of the stuff the media gets wrong because then I learn the correct stuff from people. I don't know anything about water safety rules (save for probably the most basic things) so I'm curious as to what the media does wrong.

Long ago I've been rescued from a pool in an aquapark (a bit), so I 100% agree that a drawing person doesn't shout or raises hands in the air as they do in the Media, because they can't, they don't have enough air. And the head is usually held back, as if person looks up. So these are the signs that someone drawns.

Oh yeah, that is probably one of the most common examples. That's how the majority of the people drowning in Baywatch acted, if I recall.

That pool is stunning, I'm basically never in water unless I'm showering so I know almost nothing about water safety, and while I can get your frustration half the shows on tv are probably stupidly wrong about this topic so I'm glad I don't have this issue.

WOW okay my comment is gonna sound really sarcastic but I PROMISE i don't mean it that way, but this is really interesting to me? like, pool safety isn't one of the things i look for in media. I don't even notice it coming up that much? but apparently to you it's GLARINGLY obvious, and I just find that interesting. also it's a pretty picture.
