I liked Frozen but I thought it was insulting that people were trying to compare it to Lion King. Even if Lion King is not your personal Disney favorite, it is a much much MUCH stronger film then Frozen. Frozen had too many story and pacing issues to even come close.

I understood people liking Frozen (although I personally thought it felt like a rip off of every other Disney movie out there, nothing new) but to compare it to The Lion King? HOW DARE YOU! D:

AYRT. I liked Frozen a lot for completely subjective issues that lined with my personal preferences, but I could still see the massive amount of problems it had and people were often giving it way more credit then it deserved (it is not the most progressive story ever and there was no gay couple for example.)

The Lion King just had a stronger story structure that still holds up to this day. Maybe it doesn't get originality points for rehashing Hamlet, but when a story works, it works.

Neither of them are even close to my favorite, but I personally don't see how Lion King is a better movie than Frozen.

I think you could make plenty of criticisms about TLK--the ending message is contradictory to the supposed moral (learn from your past and acceptance; but it actually wasn't your fault anyway, and we would have held it against you if it were, but who cares since it's not!), "Hakuna Matata" stage of life is a transient as a part of the movie--we spend much more time with kid Simba, then with Scar, that the movie never sells this idea that Simba is hiding from the past; Nala as a character was totally sidelined; the movie basically comes down to the 'rightfulness' of the king being more important than actual leadership; the tone of the beginning of the movie is wildly divergent from the rest; Scar plays up effeminate qualities to seem more evil; and I could go on.

Not that Frozen isn't perfect, but I disagree with your objective assessment that TLK is clearly vastly superior to Frozen.

It's a fair criticism - not to mention, I remember Sarabi being horrified when Scar accuses Simba of killing Mufasa. Like, she really thought a little cub (the human equivalent of what, nine?) was responsible? And really, none of the lionesses help Simba until after they are assured that Scar was the one who did it?

But I think Simba was running from his guilt, I do think that was made clear. And him coming back is still him returning to a life he ran away from - and to be honest, I can understand why the lionesses (except Nala) would be apprehensive to have a king who abandoned them for so long, cub or not.

I'd think "king" is more metaphorical for responsibility more than actual leadership - you shouldn't run from responsibility. But yeah, at the same time, Disney magic monarchy land. We know Scar is a "bad" leader, but the movie isn't really about leadership so doesn't really have any detail about what makes a good or bad leader. Should it have been more about the logistics of monarchy? I don't really think so, personally.

I'd say The Lion King IS vastly superior to Frozen (nyart, btw). Frozen falls into the exact same traps as The Lion King, but even more nonsensical. Elsa is never shown displaying any quality that might make her a good leader, and in fact, shut herself away and never interacted with anyone - yet we're to believe that she needs to come back and be queen? The Lion King is ultimately a better written story with fewer plot holes.
