MY PEOPLE! You are awesome OP.

The Lion King is a poor rewrite of Hamlet. I'll grant that the songs were good, but there was nothing original about the story.

I always thought that honor belonged to Beauty and The Beast. I always found TLK moral to be a little misguided.

My favorite's Tarzan.

Frozen wasn't that great.

[personal profile] iceyred 2014-07-08 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It was ok, but not as good as TLK. Give it a year or so and everybody psyched about it now will admit that it was average.

The Little Mermaid and Mulan are the best.

Mine is probably Mulan followed very closely by Lion King. But it's so close that I'm not even 100% comfortable saying I like one more than the other because both are so good and hold such a special place in my heart.

You can have your own favorite movie though, I don't see what the problem with that is. (Lots of Disney fans do too, I think?)

I liked Frozen but I thought it was insulting that people were trying to compare it to Lion King. Even if Lion King is not your personal Disney favorite, it is a much much MUCH stronger film then Frozen. Frozen had too many story and pacing issues to even come close.

God, The Lion King is definitely in my top three(Mulan and Lilo and Stitch being the two other contenders) but I can't say if it's my ultimate favourite. It's a tough choice.

Everyone's got their own favourites though and if anyone gives you shit for it, well then they're just a butt.

I'm pretty biased, so I dunno about it being objectively good, but it's still my favorite Disney movie. And the score is great! All hail Hans Zimmer.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
It's my fav too! Mulan, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin are up there for me too.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Lol this isn't some unpopular opinion OP.
A lot of people feel this way.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
The Lion King WAS much better than Toy Story or Frozen. I get it's a matter of opinion and all, but I think the quality is just on a whole different level and I feel like that's about as close to fact as film critique can get. The Lion King was one of the, if not the best Disney movie, and stands as a fantastic movie even outside of Disney.

The only other one on a close level, imo, is Beauty and the Beast. (which isn't even my favorite, by the way, but I truly think those two are the titans of Disney movies)

It's official

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
The "s!b" tag on FS has become primarily an excuse to try to make it seem like the secret is more badass and controversial and wanky than it actually is.

Just make the secret without the s!b, FFS. No one is going to question the sincerity of your secret unless you are lobbing wankbaiting. A secret doesn't need to be wankbait to be appreciated. Having a Disney movie preference is not wankbait. Everyone has Disney movie faves and no one is going to get offended by what yours is unless it's, like, Cinderella II or something.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
You know how people think Frozen overrated? I think the Lion King is overrated. People hold it up like it's untouchable but I don't see anything that special about it.

Meh. Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Tarzan, The Emperor's New Groove, Lilo & Stitch, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl were all at least as good.

My favorite is The Lady and the Tramp

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Followed closely by Snow White.

I don't get it, really--I was born in the 80s and grew up with the 90s movies, so you'd think I'd have strong memories of those ones. Apparently not.

TLK is definitely my favorite. The music has never gotten old for me.
Pocahontas holds a special place in my heart though. Dunno why. Maybe because its songs were pretty catchy too.

But I do think Beauty and the Beast is probably the most artistically impressive movie Disney's made, in all senses of the word. It probably would be my absolute favorite if I didn't hate Belle's speaking voice with the fiery passion of a thousand burning suns. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard to me x_x.

I don't know if it's objectively the best or not, but it's my favorite Disney movie of all time regardless. Admittedly that's partially because it brings back happy childhood memories of living in Kenya. One thing about TLK that's bothered me since childhood, however, is the fact that they pronounce hakuna matata wrong. It's mataTA, with a hard T, not mataDA. I get why they changed the pronunciation for the song and all, but it still irks me a bit. /pedantic

So...yeah. In my opinion, there can never be enough TLK love.
