The Lion King is a poor rewrite of Hamlet. I'll grant that the songs were good, but there was nothing original about the story.

Nothing original, unlike all those OTHER disney movies.

The story of Hamlet ultimately derives from the legend of Amleth, preserved by 13th-century chronicler Saxo Grammaticus in his Gesta Danorum as subsequently retold by 16th-century scholar François de Belleforest.

Name an original story, anon.

It was influenced by Hamlet, but a rewrite? I'm not sure if you got to the end of Hamlet, but there's a few fairly important changes.

Although I, for one, am glad they kept the bit where Rosencrantz does the hula while using Gildenstern to distract Claudius' troops so that Hamlet can sneak past on his way to reclaim the throne. Which he totally does.

Hamlet rehash?

And also the way that nobody dies at the end other than the bad guy. Glad they kept that in.

Very few, if any, of the Disney stories were original, anon. I get that may be a legit criticism from your standpoint (though it would rather limit the media you can enjoy in general), but it's not a good stick for comparing it to other Disney movies.
