It was ok, but not as good as TLK. Give it a year or so and everybody psyched about it now will admit that it was average.

The Little Mermaid and Mulan are the best.

I think a lot of the hype of Frozen is because of its cast. Broadway actors who can actually belt out the alphabet and it will sound phenomenal. That's my working theory anyways.

You're probably right. It did have a good cast.

This is the thing that annoys me about movie hype, people act like I'm crazy if I didn't like something or am hesitant about seeing something when the movie first comes out... but then a year later they'll be agreeing with every problem I had.

I've started thinking of it as the Avatar effect, people get distracted by the shiny new thing and can't think critically until it wears off.

But then I'm a weirdo who can admit that movies I loved had problems, even very early on.

'Shiny new thing' nails it perfectly. People have short attention spans.

Aw man, I hate that I always forget Mulan. I love Mulan. Why do I forget it? It just doesn't make sense.

Mulan is pretty epic. If Disney put out a costume of her armor, I would wear it for Halloween in a heartbeat.

Then post a picture on Tumblr to piss everybody off. I get to cosplay as a great character, and I get to annoy SJW!

For a second I was like "why would tumblr be pissed off" and then I was like "ooooh."

Commit to the costume. Disney won't put it out, but someone else will. It's probably out there already, just waiting for you to buy it in a delightfully controversial way.

Same! And it has THE best song in any Disney movie.

The little mermaid is about a disrespectful little girl who gets everything she wants without learning anything. The sole saving grace of her argument is that her dad was a jerk, and they had to turn him into a borderline-abusive father to make Ariel be in the right.

You...you just go in your corner of wrongness and be wrong and come to terms with the fact that you are forever wrong!

I'm a huge Disney fan, and TLM is my second favorite Disney movie, but I think that's a pretty accurate assessment. I mean, it's not spot-on, and there are caveats, but truthfully, that's basically what happens. I think TLM is one of the morally worst movies, and Ariel the worst role model after Merida among the Princesses, but it's a really great film.

The Little Mermaid is about a teenage girl who acts like a teenager. It was never about Ariel ~growing as a character. It was about Triton not being a controlling asshole and learning to let go of his prejudice.
