38. Roy and Riza are two of my favorite characters ever, and it's still not obvious to me, nor is it canon. In fact, it's the fans who claim Royai is OMG SO OBVIOUS! that turned me away from the pairing.

Not entirely sure about this, but I heard it's movie-canon. Riza apparently admits her attraction to Roy.

No, it's not movie canon. Some fans even claim the movie argued against Royai.

Some people argued the movie was a whole mess of ship-wars... because it insinuated a lot of one-sided relationships and pointed out bonds/concerns between characters.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I really didn't like the movie. It's like they tried to please all the ships and ended up failing everything.

I'm not going to say I dislike the movie... I actually rather like it- but I agree. It definitely seemed to just be two hours of fan-service. Like, "Oh, look at this possible pairing/romantic interest over here."
Which was.. definitely aggravating for me, because I'd been told before seeing it that it would solidify pairings more than anything - and one of my favorite aspects of FMA was the complete lack of pairing.

I had that same problem with EdWin, before the manga got far enough into anything to even seem remotely canon. I liked the idea of EdWin if it was written well, but... the die hard fans really made me take a step back, and sort of- keep my pairing opinions to myself.
