(and I don't think exaggerated musculature counts. That's more to appeal to male fantasies about being super strong).

Except some women like that. Just like some men can get turned off by some "hyper-sexulized" female poses.

SA

*hyper-sexualized

And so this won't be just a correction post. I think the problem comes in when everything starts look the same. All the males are beefcake, all the women are unrealistically proportioned and posed.

To be fair, I do think that some comic book companies are recognizing this and trying to diversify their artists.

Yeah, I know some women like it, but the point isn't for it to be sexually appealing. The boobs-and-butt pose is meant to be sexual.

How do you know that the point of the beefcake shots isn't partially to appeal to women?

it might be partially in some cases, but if we're talking about media that's basically only being (or only has been, in the past) marketed to men, then it's more likely to be appealing to male fantasy.

I can't speak for all women, obviously, but personally, the muscles do nothing for me. I like a kind of leanness/angularity, like seeing a guy's hipbones or pointy elbows.

Some women might be into musculature, but I've not come across any who actually like the super bodybuilder silhouette or get turned on by extremely sharply-defined muscles, which is what you'll see on the cover of most comic books.

To me it's all about the suggestion of sex. Posing can do that very strongly. Musculature can't do that at all IMO.

Woman who's attracted to highly defined muscles over here and body builder as long as it isn't to the far extreme.

But there's definitely a much greater element of male power fantasy than any attempt to appeal to what women with similar interest of mine, especially given the utter lack of any kind of endowment.
