I don't find it very useful to define people that way. I prefer to look at specific actions and beliefs. Are you looking at gay people as individuals or do you look at each person as a representative of the group and make assumptions based on that? That's really the main thing in my mind. If not, work on that. If you're using gay slurs, stop doing that. Don't worry about if you're a homophobic person or not and how that makes you terrible or not, just stop doing things that people point out as homophobic behaviors without getting caught up on guilt or being defensive and what it says about you.
