Male anti-heroes and in general the idea that pure heroes are dull and having really grey characters is inherently superior. I want more female anti-heroes and more female heroes in general and an end to the idea that darker is automatically better. Write good characters and tell a good story. Light can be just as good if written well and dark can be just as bad if not written well.

Female anti-heroes who aren't femme fatales, and I fully agree with you.

Yes. Not femme fatales an the anti- part is more than just sexy/seductive.

Man I like anti-heroes and I agree with you, there's just too many of them these days, they can be fun sure but honest to god good people are important and can be complex and interesting too.

Thank you. And the idea that good people are simple...what do you think that all good people find it easy to be good? Their internal struggle with freely making the good choice is hard, considering they can just take the easy ay out and choose not to be good--anyway the whole thing can be incredibly complicated.

The problem with that is it's frequently not portrayed that way. The good characters are often incredibly dull because the writers either don't want to sully their incredible pure purity with silly human frailties, or they just can't be assed to do the work to portray the fact that being just and merciful is sometimes the harder path, particularly when the character has a very personal stake in things.

AGREED. just all of this.

ESPECIALLY the idea that darker is better and makes for more conflict. you can get just as much (if not more) conflict out of a "light" hero striving to remain that way in a dark world. I don't think that kind of hero is boring at all!

I think it sort of ties into this idea that dark and gritty and cynical is more mature and more realistic. I disagree. I think fighting to remain optimistic and make the world a better place is far more mature than moping around.

more female characters as heroes and anti-heroes and villians and anti-villians and a million shades in-between please. just more complexity.

my absolute favourite example of a female villain is Kreia from KOTOR II. even though that game is despised, I thought she was a really interesting female villain.
