I don't think any genre of music is inherently superior to any other, and I don't think popular=bad. If I like a song, I'll buy it regardless of genre. I like everything from pop and hip-hop to indie to country to classical.

Agreed. It took me a long time to even notice genre. When I was a kid I would be all excited to share a new song I liked with my brother and then he would immediately go "ugh, it's country" and that was the end of it.

Honestly, this is my mindset when it comes to music now.

I honestly feel like no one nowadays listens to just one genre of music.

I met a guy who said he "only likes country" and all I could think was "you don't really like music then". Not because I don't like country, but because what makes it country is pretty superficial imo. You can prefer to listen to one genre of music (I certainly do) but I don't automatically dislike everything outside that genre.

AYRT
I agree that people can have genre preferences. Personally I have yet to meet someone who listens exclusively to one genre but I guess they can be out there

Agreed too. There are some genres I am less likely to like, but that's just because of my tastes and doesn't reflect on the quality, and there are probably songs I like in most genres.

Though I am very muddy on music genres.

I was coming here to say basically this. Like I don't even care about the reputation the artist has. As long as I like the music I don't care.

Celebrity politics are really tiresome to keep up with.

I also hate when people assume that because you listen to their music you blindly agree to everything they do, but that's another bucket of worms.

I wish to hell celebrities would just keep their political/social opinions to themselves (Obviously those who become celebrities via politics are a different story). I've been turned off of a lot of things because some celebrity opened their mouth and revealed just how racist/bigoted/ect., they actually are.

And then there's Tom Cruise.

There was an NS last week about how if/when someone famous exposes themselves as one of these things they don't deserve fame or whatever....honestly I can't say I disagree with that 100%.

Very rarely does it seem like a genuine error when it happens, but it happens.

I'm not giving my money or looking at shitheads if I know that's what they are, but I am also woefully inadequate at pirating movies (besides I want the ticket stubs)

well I meant celebrity politics as in "who's in" "who's not", "who's 'cool' to like" and all that. I rarely pay attention to celebrities politics. I just care about music.

I agree. It's all tunes to me.
