I disagree, OP. I think Amy is a great character in her own right, as well as a good foil to Jake. Plus, throughout the rest of the first season, she does get character development. It shows that she is more than just a 'go-getter' or an over-achiever, She remains smart and competent, but learns how to gain self-confidence, not worrying about over doing things or failing to meet one's standards. (Of course, it's not an immediate change, but gradual, hopefully.)

Then again, I can relate to her. I understand her ambition, as well as the pressure of meeting standards and/or going beyond to impress others.

Also, I like the chemistry between Jake and Amy. It's dynamic yet realistic, or at least relatable. I've noticed that their relationship kinda parallels Jim and Pam from the Office, given that the writers are the same.
