You get to braid horse tails?

Yes, I do. It's kind of a dying art, given that the breed isn't that common anymore. Everytime there's going to be a "premiering" ( evaluation of exterior ans workability for breeding purposes) people are scrambling in panic to get someone who knows how to braid and to find "bast" ( the strips that are braided into the tail). I thought that it might be useful knowledge.

Huh, different breeds have different braids?

Yes. We have two main heavy breeds here in Sweden and the Ardenner is the only one of those two, that is braided. The other one, Northswedish draft horse, are shown with their mane and tail loose, untrimmed and natural.

There are Shire horses and Clydesdales, but their style of braids are different. They use colourful ribbons, for one.

The Swedish warmblood (riding horse) is shown with small braids which are rolled up into round "buttons" and the tail is trimmed on the sides of the root.

Horses are amazing. And horse tradition stuff is amazing. I wish I could learn to ride a horse (or just like pet one's nose).
