I thought I'd parsed out that you feel that fandom's problems come from the nerdier fandoms (e.g. videogames, comics, animanga) but I am also at a loss about how taxidermy is a fandom (or even problemmatic).

I do question your assessment that the fandoms are the cause of the poor social skills, however. Fandoms may certainly amplify preexisting behavior, but I just can't buy that they cause it.

I read the secret the opposite way from you. Their problems in fandom are due to them being bad at social skills, not that fandom causes the lack of social skills. Which sounds logical enough to me. Fandom is a social place and people who lack social skills are going to have trouble in fandom just like in any other social situation.

yeah, I agree with your assessment too (as the second half pf my comment).

TBH I'm actually not clear what point the OP was trying to make (though the inclusion of stuffed squirrels makes me suspect it's just a trolling.)

Eh, idk. There are a lot of people who like taxidermy when it's done with a sense of humor.

Yes, but ... listing it as a fandom seemed odd. Unless they mean "problems caused by fandom include the CONSUMPTION of comics, animanga, the playing of videogames, and the hobby of taxidermy" ?

Not really. From what I've seen [and, admittedly, this is mostly what I've heard from people who are into it], it's got more in common with the fandoms that focus more on collecting than on say...fanfic or fanart.

I don't know that there is a point, really, other than to confess this. The idea that people lacking social skills and social graces, of whom "nerdier" fandoms are often composed are more likely to create wank due to misunderstandings.

Like I said, I don't think it's about having a point so much as it is having no other medium through which to broadcast this opinion. Or wanting the anonymity lest there be backlash re: the lack of social skills stemming from mental illnesses or re: resentment at the fandoms OP chose to denote as "nerdier."

That's how I read it, too. (Which I agree makes sense.)
