Those vague secrets with long rants and only a colour/a really random picture in the background and the text "picture somehow related". It's a secret. You are anon. Just tell us the fandom/wank you're talking about or stop with those ~vague and mysterious~ hints.

I used to complain about vague fandoms, but I'm in a few small fandoms now and if I were specific about the fandom in a secret the comments would all be "FINGAL IS THAT YOU!?"

Oh yes, I understand this. I think being vague about small fandoms or naming fanartists/ fanfic authors when you complain about them is understandable. I don't even mind people being vague about their fandom at all, just those stupid ~allusions to the fandom - guess!guess!~ is kind of annoying.

I think people do this because they don't want to get into an argument about the specifics of that particular episode/character and want to talk about the underlying issue instead.

Or it's a Shibboleth thing. Like that secret about a Stargate Universe fic that did this, and only Stargate fans realized "hey look, that background pattern's from a stargate!" and only Stargate Universe fans would remember the fic that fit the OP's description perfectly, while all the non-fans would be left out of the loop.

Some fandoms are small enough where it wouldn't be that hard to figure out who's making the secret.

As I said, I don't mind that they're not telling, I mind their little "guessing games". Because if it's a small fandom and someone is aware of that fandom, they know what it is. And then they also know who made the secret.

The thing is, people are going to try and guess, anyway, how a picture in a secret relates to that secret. So it's the person actually acknowledging that in the secret itself that bugs you?

I know if I ever made the secrets I want to, I definitely would have something obscure in the background. Because my corner of a large fandom is very small and insular, so saying directly what fandom/pairing I'm talking about would unmask me.
