I like Thud.

As for the others, to each their own. I'm honestly glad that you like them, OP.

I love "Thud", personally.

It's really just "Snuff" that I found a disappointment (I wouldn't say UA was one of my favourites, but I think it was a perfectly good book - it just didn't quite get into my top five. Same with "I shall wear midnight"). I can't help thinking that the problem with Snuff was actually that there's not much more you can do to develop Vimes. Which pains me, because he's one of my favourite characters, but it does seem like his arc has come to a natural end.

I think my main problem with Snuff was that a lot of the social commentary was just plain unsubtle. Like villains have always been over the top and evil before, but Snuff was especially "SLAVERY IS BAD, M'KAY."

And Cheery, who I normally like, just really rubbed me the wrong way. Like she suddenly knows all these things about goblins and is super sarcastic to Fred and Nobby. And once again, I get the social commentary and I think "hey even characters you like can be insensitive jerks about certain topics" is a great message, I just don't like how it was executed? IDK. Like we know Fred and Nobby are backwards thinking "good old boys." Having Cheery teach them a Social Justice Lesson (tm), just felt very artificial given the way Discworld works.

That and the incredibly Vimes-centric focus like you mentioned. It worked in Night Watch, but that was because he was still in Ankh-Morpork which is pretty much a character in its own right. If Pterry does eventually do another Watch book, I really want him to stay there. Or maybe even a Watch book that doesn't focus on Vimes, since there are about 149823 supporting characters in the force now.
