With you on two of four; Thud! is way up at the top of my list and I Shall Wear Midnight was excellent. Snuff was...strange. It somehow managed to feel exactly like a Discworld book while completely lacking any of the usual humor. I feel the need to digest and reread.

I can't stand with you on Unseen Academicals, though. That's sitting next to Monstrous Regiment on my mental "I have no desire to ever read this again" shelf.

Oh no, I loved Monstrous Regiment (but then again it was my second Discworld Novel after Maurice Wonder and it's been a while).
What did you dislike about it?

Yours appears to be the majority opinion though. I haven't read Monstrous Regiment yet myself but only ever heard mostly good things about it.

nice :D although I'm sure there are reasons to not like it... for me personally the (spoilerific) revealations about the characters kinda blew my mind with ~13.

I hope you'll enjoy it as well when you get to read it!

AYRT

I felt like it was a one-off gag trying to stretch itself to novel length and failing, and I just didn't find Polly an interesting enough character to want to read an entire book about her.

That's probably the thing. I loved the whole regiment. That book feels like it hinges on its cast more than most, for better or worse.

I mean, it took all of Guards! Guards! and most of Men at Arms for the Night's Watch to grow on me, but I still loved those books. Monstrous Regiment though, that one was carried for me by the cast, start to finish
